This is a list of movies that I watched for the first time in 2023. I love movies and they make me happy so I will be sharing my brief thoughts on all 200 below. Some are short winded and some I have longer thoughts on and some are kind of half assed towards the end. I’ll be better with the January review. Keep in mind I don’t really know what I’m talking about
Also this part is very important, they are numbered but they are NOT ranked from best to worst. This is the order that I watched them in.
1. There Will be Blood:
Every time you hear about this movie you get “Daniel Day-Lewis all time performance” jammed down your throat. While I do think he was amazing, I think Paul Dano is overlooked in this and had an equally as good if not better performance. Basically a guy goes to California to drill for oil and battles with a preacher. It’s a slow burn but the acting will knock your socks off. Worth the 2 hours and 38 minutes if you have the time
2. The Florida Project:
This is just a really really good coming of age film that really exceeded my expectations. It follows a poor mom and her kids living in a motel in Florida, and then also the hotel manager. I had always thought that I disliked Will Dafoe but this movie completely changed my mind on him and I went on to watch probably 8 more of his movies over the past year. Also I read that the kids did not have lines and were mostly improvising
3. Calm With Horses:
This movie is called Shadows of Violence in the US but I refuse to refer to it as that because Calm With Horses is so much cooler in my opinion. Barry Keoghan doesn’t miss and he’ll be dominating the movie world for years to come. Also an amazing performance from Cosmo Jarvis who I had never heard of. Really cool Irish crime drama type deal
4. The Green Knight:
Really boring story and very forgettable. Dev Patel was good as always and Barry Keoghan had a 5 minute role that was the best 5 minutes of the movie. It has great reviews everywhere so maybe I am the problem
5. Snatch:
This is like if you mix Pulp Fiction, Fight Club and The Ocean’s movies all into 1. I thought this was one of the better Jason Statham performances I’ve seen. Brad Pitt killed it as always. This is a good crime/gangster movie and definitely worth your time
6. On the Count of Three:
I’ve recommended this so many times to so many people since watching it. It's so dark and sad and depressing but also funny at times. I was glued to the screen the entire time and especially towards the last 15 minutes. Christopher Abbott is on the come up and I think he’ll get a lot of big roles in the future. Also a really good directorial debut from Jerrod Carmichael (who also plays the main role)
7. Flower:
Zoey Deutch is incredible and I laughed at almost every word that came out of her mouth for the first hour of the movie. Also some very serious parts that I enjoyed as well. Story is not believable but it is a movie so it doesn’t have to be. I think it’s worth watching
8. The Prestige:
Probably top 5 or 10 out of the movies that I watched this year. You have unreal performances from Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Scarjo, Michael Cain, directed by Nolan. Not sure what else you need. Plot twist was bonkers and I had a lot of fun throughout the whole movie
9. The Whale:
Oscar winning performance out of Brendan Fraser and awesome support from Sadie Sink and the chick that plays the nurse or friend or whatever she was I honestly don’t remember. Awesome acting but I wasn’t that interested in the story
10. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World:
Loved it so much that I bought a poster. I realize I am like 14 years late to the party but this is the type of dumb humor that gets me. The shirt that just says sharpie will never not be funny to me. And I loved when they kept bringing up his haircut
11. I, Tonya:
This is the worst movie I have ever seen
12. Lemon:
This is better than I Tonya but just barely
13. Pig:
Nicholas Cage was awesome I thought, didn’t say a whole lot of words but when he did it was sick. I thought it got really entertaining towards the back half and some great scenes in the end
14. The Trial of the Chicago 7:
Sasha Baron Cohen is the best part by far I thought, he provides some comedic relief but still serious at times. Basically there are 8 people that they are trying to charge with inciting a riot. I don’t really know exactly what they were protesting and I do not care. I loved the acting and I am a sucker for good lawyer scenes. Can’t summarize this without mentioning Joseph Gordon-Levitt
15. Insomnia:
It's a good psychological thriller but it won’t change your life at all. I’m not crazy about Al Pacino with the exception of Scarface but I thought he was fine in this. Robin Williams was weird as usual. Police detective goes to Alaska to investigate a murder to summarize it in one sentence
16. Closer:
Awesome cast. Natalie Portman, Jude Law and Clive Owen all dominated. I didn’t care for Julia Roberts much but that is probably an unpopular opinion. There are some scenes that are just so weirdly sexual where I was like what the hell is this. I guess the story is interesting but not worth watching in my opinion
17. Okja:
Okja is this giant stolen pig that they are trying to get back. I love Jake Gyllenhaal and he is so versatile and I think this is another great example of that. Paul Dano comes in and steals the show as always. Definitely worth watching I think
18. Brokeback Mountain:
Just a great gay love story I don’t know what else you want me to say
19. No Country for Old Men:
Another classic that I wanted to cross off my list. One of the best villains ever. Javier Bardem was so weird and creepy and played the role perfectly. The ending is so awesome
20. Free Guy:
Ryan Reynolds plays the same character as he always does but I guess if it’s not broke don’t fix it. It’s just a feel good movie that is easy to watch and doesn’t take too long to spell things out. I remember there were 3 or 4 times that I laughed out loud
21. Moonlight:
I’m not crazy about this movie but there are a lot of people who disagree it seems. It's a story about a kid growing up in Miami and they go through his childhood, teen life and adult life. I thought the music was amazing. The story is fine but I just felt like I had seen it a thousand times
22. Swiss Army Man:
This is top 5 weirdest things I’ve ever seen in my life. I love Paul Dano as I’ve mentioned and I thought his acting was great. I just hated the story so much
23. The Company You Keep:
A great title first of all. Regardless of what you think of Shia Lebouf as a person he is undeniably an incredible actor. I’m not sure if he is capable of playing a bad role. It’s a murder mystery with about 97,000 plot twists and a lot of dialogue. That is literally my cup of tea
24. Ex Machina:
A wicked smart guy creates an AI, a lot could go wrong there. The last 30 minutes makes the movie. A few sweet plot twists and then it kind of ends exactly how you think it would but there is nothing wrong with that. When I had originally written this review when I watched this I said I couldn’t decide if I liked Oscar Isaac or not. Over the past year I have decided I absolutely love him as an actor and I’ll get to more of his performances later
25. The Tax Collector:
This is a horrible movie and Shia Lebouf is the sole reason that it is not a 0 out of 10
26. Outside In:
Guy gets out of prison and is weirdly obsessed with an older woman that assisted in getting him out. Also a strange relationship going on between him and the woman’s daughter. I have forgotten a lot of it
27. Frances Ha:
Greta Gerwig man, everything she does rocks. This is still one of my favorite performances I’ve ever seen. It feels like you are watching real life instead of a movie. I loved the ending so much. Just a forewarning, if a movie filmed entirely in black and white is going to bother you then you will not be able to watch this. But i think you should give it a chance
28. Side Effects:
I am slut for mystery thrillers and this is just that. Jude law was the stand out as far as acting goes I thought. The plot twist came totally out of left field and I never saw it coming even for a second.
29. Tick Tick Boom:
I thought Andrew Garfield was incredible as always, I have yet to see him in a role that I didn’t enjoy. It's a story about this guy trying to make it as a composer and also trying to maintain relationships. It is a musical so keep that in mind if you decide to watch it. If you do not care for musicals then the chances of you enjoying this are very low
30. The Wonder:
This movie sucks and I can’t believe it actually got made. Also i am NOT on the Florence Pugh hype train
31. Pieces of a Woman:
This is definitely in the top 10 out of this list. One of the most real movies I’ve ever seen. As I’ve mentioned, Shia Lebouf is unreal as an actor. He can do any role and he does them all perfectly. He actually scared me in this. This one shows how everyone deals with grief and loss differently and it really affects their relationships. Really dark and heartbreaking but incredible flick here
32. Croupier:
I learned here that a croupier is the person who runs the tables at the casino and I also learned that Clive Owen is a frickin sick actor. To sum it up quickly the main guy is a writer and his dad gets him a job as a croupier. It kept me engaged for the entire time and a nice plot twist at the end that I was not expecting. Main character is a huge hypocrite
33. You People:
Pretty much what you’d expect out of a Netflix original comedy. Jonah Hill carried i thought and he did what he could with the story. Lauren London and Eddie Murphy were fine. Basically Jonah Hill is marrying Lauren London despite the religious differences between the families and they deal with those challenges
34. The Disaster Artist:
I just couldn’t ever get past the stupid fucking accent that James Franco was doing. I know it was based on the guy in real life but I hated it. It is based off a real movie called The Room where from what I understand this guy is a really bad actor and is making a really bad movie. He somehow had unlimited money to fund the movie and I don’t think anyone knew where the money was coming from. Idk moving on
35. The Lobster:
It's a textbook A24 film. Anyone who is single has to go to this hotel and they have 45 days to get into a relationship or they get turned into an animal of their choosing. Colin Farrel delivers time and time again. Great lead from him I thought. Like I said really weird and thought provoking story which is pretty on par for A24
36. Judas and the Black Messiah:
You just get 2 incredible performances out of Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield. Kaluuya got an Oscar for it I believe. Basically you have a rat working for the FBI infiltrating the Black Panthers. I do not like the new Jesse Plemmons I want the old Jesse back
37. The Silence of the Lambs:
Another classic I wanted to cross off the list. I don’t get the hype here, it's a good movie but I can’t believe the amount of respect it gets. Anthony Hopkins was very good and I think he nailed the whole psychopath but also extremely smart thing. Idk just didn’t do much for me. Great title though, probably the best of these 200
38. The Spectacular Now:
There is never a bad time to watch a great rom com. I could probably watch this movie everyday and not get tired of it. I was a huge fan of the Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley combo. Basically this kid is a moron and gets a new girlfriend who is like the most perfect person ever and he is trying so hard to blow it
39. The Age of Adeline:
A girl gets in an accident at 29 and she can’t age anymore so she has been 29 for like 80 years. Probably Blake Lively's 2nd best performance ever behind A Simple Favor.
40. The End of the Tour
Jesse Eisenberg is a journalist and is following Jason Segal around to write a story about him. The majority of the movie is just them 2 talking to each other and then a few others have very small roles. Not much of a story, I liked it but probably wouldn’t recommend
41. A Star is Born:
Most of the time I’m not a huge fan of Bradley Cooper and this is one of those times. Lady Gaga is not an actor and idk why she got cast for this role. This movie is just ok and I can’t understand the hype. When they sing The Shallows that was pretty cool though
42. Worth:
They are trying to create a relief fund for the families of those who were killed or injured in 911. I thought it was interesting to see another perspective or way that it affected people. Typical mid level budget movie feel
43. A Man Called Otto:
I am not a Tom Hanks fan with the exception of Turner and Hooch and then the Toy Story movies if we’re counting voice acting. That being said I thought he was great in this. Tom Hanks is a widow and a grumpy old man. A family moves in across the street from him and they become friends. Perfect mixture of heart warming and breaking. Saw this in theaters alone which Griff agreed is NOT weird
44. Black Swan:
Natalie Portman won the Oscar and a number of other awards for this and I think for good reason. The movie is really disturbing and uncomfortable pretty much the entire time. She’s a ballerina but the movie is so much more than just that. I read that the girl is dealing with the beginning stages of psychosis. I don’t know exactly what that is but I really enjoyed the movie
45. What happened to Monday:
It's the 2050s and each family is only allowed to have one kid to control overpopulation. These chicks are sextuplets and they have to pretend like there is only one of them. Noomi Rapace plays all 7 of the girls which I thought was cool. Also another Will Dafoe performance that I enjoyed
46. Nomadland:
An hour and 48 minutes of my life that I will never get back
47. Highwaymen:
Its ok, a story about Bonnie and Clyde which I didn’t know much about so I figured I’d give it a try. I really liked the Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson duo
48. The Butterfly Effect:
Ashton Kutcher killed this role. This was one of the most perfect castings of all time. Basically this kid can alter the past with his memories and it shows how when he changes one thing it ends up changing a ton of other stuff (the butterfly effect)
49. Black Bear:
It's been about 11 months since I’ve watched it now and at the time I had thought I figured out the point of this movie but I have now forgotten. I remember my mind being in a blender for the majority of the film. I think anything Aubrey Plaza touches is perfect and also Chris Abbot is on the rise as I mentioned. The theme is pretty much deception/betrayal/some people just suck
50. Dallas Buyers Club:
This is a great movie that everyone should watch. 2 Oscar performances from Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto. I think this is McConaughey’s best performance I’ve ever seen. (Don I’m not saying the movie is better than Interstellar I’m just saying the performance is better). Story is true I believe and pretty wild. McConaughey has AIDS and they won’t approve him to get this certain type of meds. He starts finding alternate ways to get them and starts distributing them to others also. Awesome movie
51. About Time:
Rachel McAdams carries this. Another one about time travel. Pretty cool how it is like a romance/sci-fi mix
52. Stowaway:
I really like Anna Kendrick but this is just a bottom tier sci-fi movie
53. Jojo Rabbit:
If you like great movies with great acting then this is for you. I thought it was a genius way to show a really fucked up topic. Banger performances everywhere from Scarjo, Sam Rockwell, the main little kid and Thomasin Mackenzie. It has Tarantino vibes similar to Basterds but a lot funnier. The main kid is brainwashed into worshiping Hitler and that’s all I'll say in an effort to not give anything away. Also Thomasin Mackenzie is going to dominate for years
54. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford:
Obnoxiously long title. Casey Affleck is probably my favorite actor now even over Gosling. He was perfect in this and then great performances from Brad Pitt and Sam Rockwell also. Loved the acting but the story bored me and was way too long
55. Promising Young Woman:
Another performance robbed of an Oscar by that piece of shit Nomadland. Carey Mulligan is so underrated and she was amazing in this. This is the definition of a plot thickening throughout the whole film. I don’t want to give anything away but an awesome revenge film
56. The Colony:
Terrible movie
57. Seven Psychopaths:
Right out of the gate this shit comes out swinging. First scene was so sick and really set the tone for violence. Colin Farrel, Walken, Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson all dominated. The murder scenes were all so dope dude. Basically a guy is trying to write a movie and he is trying to come up with characters/events for the movie throughout the actual movie. So you are watching a movie being made inside of a movie
58. The Fundamentals of Caring:
Another feel good movie that is easy to watch. Paul Rudd is a caregiver and his client has muscular dystrophy. Don’t ask me what that is because I don’t know. The kid just can’t really move at all so Paul Rudd has to do everything for him. They end up going to the world’s largest pit and Selena Gomez is a hitchhiker and then the kid falls in love with her
59. Room:
Mom and kid are being held captive in a shed and this guy keeps coming in every once in a while to check on them and assault the mom basically. I am a fan of Brie Larson and she was pretty solid in this. I hated the kid so bad, he's such a little prick. They end up coming up with a plan to escape and succeed. Don’t watch this
60. Little Women:
This is a great frickin movie man. The acting is incredible all around but Saoirse Ronan is the standout in my opinion. She’s just stacking up perfect performances left and right. Emma Watson and Timothee Chalamet are most notable after that. Greta Gerwig directed, all of the above is a perfect recipe for a great film. Basically it is about these 4 sisters that all have different interests and they kinda keep bouncing around following all 4. Not mentioning Florence Pugh
61. The Fabelmans:
Add it to the list of perfect Paul Dano performances. I don’t care much for Michelle Williams and I think she makes this film worse. With that said this is a pretty good coming of age story. I believe it is loosely based on Stephen Spielberg's life
62. Devotion:
Johnny Majors acts his ass off in this. Is he guilty or not guilty idk you’ll have to ask Don. A couple scenes like when he is talking shit to himself in the mirror and when he is stuck in the plane are so cool. Glenn Powell was fine and I enjoyed the girl who played Majors’ wife. I’m a sucker for war movies centered around flying
63. Bodies Bodies Bodies:
This is a pretty fun slasher flick. Skete Davidson was the same character that he usually is and I wish he had a bigger role. Basically a group of friends are in this huge house and then there is a hurricane and the power goes out. A quick and fun one that I think is worth watching
64. The Blackkklansman:
Adam Driver is something else man, he was great in this. It is about the first black cop in the Colorado Springs police department. He’s kinda trying to make a name for himself so he decides to infiltrate the KKK to gain information on what they’re up to. Great movie you should watch it
65. If Beale Street Could Talk:
This is my favorite of the year. I can’t think of enough good things to spew out about this one but I’ve already given a lengthy review so I won’t make you read it again. Everyone should watch this asap. A very very short summary would be that the boyfriend is falsely accused of rape and they are trying to get him released from prison. How the main girl did not win the Oscar for this is beyond me. She didn’t even get a nomination which I think is highway fucking robbery because I looked at the nominations from that year. Please watch it
66. Shaft (2000 version):
It's a fun and quick crime movie. I can only watch Samuel L Jackson play the exact same character so many times before I start to get bored. I do like the guy though. It's a good movie but didn’t live up to my expectations even in the slightest. Cool to see Christian Bale as the bad guy
67. Memories of Murder:
Dope title. 3rd Bong Joon Ho film I’ve seen and 2nd favorite. About a serial killer/rapist on the run. 2 of the detectives trying to catch him are frickin morons and then there is a 3rd guy who is a little smarter who comes in to help. I enjoyed it but nothing to freak out about. It is entirely in Korean so you will need subtitles if you don’t speak Korean
68. The Forgotten Battle:
Title is funny because I actually do not remember a single thing about this movie before going back to look at my original review. Looks like I had written it is a pretty mid level war flick. Idk not worth watching I guess
69. Half Nelson:
Gosling led film is hard to mess up. It’s about a teacher who is really good with the kids but then has quite the dark side to him outside of school. Funny at times and also really dark/emotional in other parts. Worth watching
70. The Ides of March:
Gosling perfect again shocker. George Clooney is running for president and Gosling and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are on his campaign team. Paul Giamatti is on the other candidates side and I loved him in this. I do not care for politics but this is not political at all even though it is about presidential campaigns. A couple fat plot twists that take it in a direction that I was not expecting even for a second
71. Burnt:
I was just slightly shit talking Bradley Cooper above but I thought he was great in this. In these cooking movies/shows it's pretty much a given that the main character is going to be a psychopath but still an incredible cook. This guy was a top chef in Paris but then fell off the boat for a while and is now trying to make a comeback. Liked it a lot
72. How to Train Your Dragon:
Great story here in my opinion. Kind of a coming of age as the kid is kind of an outcast and trying to figure out who he is. So funny that his name is Hiccup. Such an easy watch and never got bored. Top tier animated film
73. John Wick:
John Wick is a badass obviously. The way that they introduced what happened to him was so sick. I realize I am like 10 years late to the party so you’ve probably seen it but if not you should watch it asap
74. 50/50
I am a Joseph Gordon-Levitt stan so I was bound to thoroughly enjoy this one. Main character is diagnosed with spine cancer and the movie shows how it affects him as well as his family/friends. Pretty sad and almost got a tear out of me
75. John Wick Chapter 2:
Almost as good as the first one. Idk why people keep fucking with this guy. Pencil kill made me tingle. There are also a number of kills towards the middle that are absolutely bonkers
76. Portrait of a Lady on Fire:
Great reviews literally everywhere but I think it sucks
77. John Wick Chapter 3:
This is my least favorite of the four. Still a great film though. Some great kills in the beginning which is on par with the other 3, got boring towards the middle I felt. Halle Berry was fine but I didn’t think her character was necessary. Not a great ending
78. The French Dispatch:
Stacked cast like every other Wes Anderson movie. Timothee Chalamet was solid per usual. Wasn’t interested at all in the story. Frances Macdormand with another average performance. Thank god Bill Murray had a small role as more screen time for him is the only way this could’ve gotten worse
79. Annihilation:
Natalie Portman is one of the best to ever do it and I don’t think a ton of people will disagree. She is the main reason this movie is good. Oscar Isaac was also good but had a small role. A lot of the main points of the movie went right over my head even after Google searches. At times I am pretty dense though so that may not be the case for others. Pretty average or goodish sci-fi film that I’ll never watch again
80. 25th Hour:
Guy gets sentenced to prison and this is his last day of freedom. Big betrayal plot twist thing that comes out of left field. Edward Norton carries this as he usually does with any film that he is in. Worth watching I think
81. Fall:
Loved it. Was sick to my stomach the majority of the time due to the heights. Keeps you locked in the whole time. These 2 chicks decide that they should climb a 2,000 foot cell tower just for fun. Really cool plot twist towards the end
82. Gangster Squad:
Another flawless act from Ryan Gosling. He was doing this voice that was higher than his actual voice the entire time which was interesting. Basically a cop is forming a secret group to take down a mob boss. Ending was underwhelming
83. Waves:
Some of the best music and camerawork that I’ve ever seen. This kid is a high school wrestler and his dad is very tough on him. Apparently he was pushed too far because this kid just goes off the fucking rails. I have no clue who the main actor is but he is alarmingly good at playing an absolute psychopath. The second half switches the pace a little and follows the sister. Watch it asap it is free on multiple platforms
84. Out of the Furnace:
Definitely top 10 if not top 5 out of these 200. It's hard to go wrong with Casey Affleck and Christian Bale in the same movie. If for some reason you still don’t believe Casey is the superior Affleck just turn this on and watch him dominate. Please watch it I am begging you
85. True Romance:
I believe this is the first movie that Tarantino ever wrote. I knew nothing about Christian Slater or Patricia Arquette at this point but this was a great introduction to both of them for me. I swear I could have written this movie. Basically this dude gets set up with a call girl but then she actually likes him and then they do a bunch of coke and then the mob is after them. At the end of the day i did really enjoy it and I think it is worth watching
86. LA Confidential:
I remember not paying very close attention to this one. Kevin Spacey bores me with the exception of Usual Suspects. It's a good 90s crime flick I guess. Google frickin raves about it so I may need to give it another chance
87. Boiler Room:
I believe this is the only Giovanni Ribisi led film I have ever seen. I think that he is criminally underrated as an actor. Loved this one. The main guy drops out of college and is running a casino out of his house. He then gets recruited to work for this firm called JT Marlin. Not the best stock market movie I’ve ever seen but it’s good enough
88. Punch Drunk Love:
This is a really strange movie. Adam Sandler is playing this guy Barry who is like dangerously socially awkward to the point where it controls his life. Lots of weird little side stories with pudding, his 7 sisters, a random piano, some extortion, etc.
89. This is Where I Leave You:
I know for sure that Griff, Ken, Don and my parents all watched this and all loved it. Everyone loves it. This is a great movie. Jason Bateman just nails the quick witted, dry and dark sense of humor time and time again. There are 4 adult siblings and their dad just died so they are back at home for the funeral
90. Inside Man:
Clive Owen delivers again as he always does it seems. Good support from Denzel also. Cool story about a bank robbery and a nice little hostage situation as well. There are a lot of question marks throughout and when they get revealed it is SO sweet
91. Clay Pigeons:
A classic 90s movie here. Stellar performance from a young Joaquin Phoenix. Vince Vaughn stole the show for me. We all know how good he is at comedic roles but apparently he is also awesome at playing a serial killer
92. Trainspotting:
This is not a good movie. If you want to watch a heroin movie watch Requiem for a Dream which is one of the best movies of all time
93. Enemy of the State:
This is a good performance from Will Smith and I think one of his first big ones ever. This was right after Fresh Prince I believe. A lawyer gets his hands on a tape that could incriminate an official in the NSA. Then the NSA official and his colleagues are trying to get the tape and or kill Will Smith. I remember the ending being extremely underwhelming but still worth watching if you’re really desperate
94. Sleepless in Seattle:
I really don’t care for Tom Hanks but for some reason I continue to watch movies that he stars in. I actually didn’t mind him in this. The main point of the movie is incredibly stupid but if you can get past that then it’s ok. This guy is a widow and his son calls into a radio show and talks about his dad and women all over the country become obsessed with him
95. The Big Lebowski:
Another classic that all of the movie lists and blogs say you gotta watch. I did not think even one second of this movie was funny at all. Seems to be an unpopular opinion
96. Sound of Metal:
An awesome movie about a drummer who loses his hearing and has to adapt to his new life as a deaf person. This is the first Riz Ahmed performance I’ve seen and I enjoyed it a lot. I had 5 out of 5 expectations going into it, didn’t live up to that but at least a 4 out of 5.
97. Air:
One of the better 2023 releases out of the ones that I’ve seen. Story of how Nike ends up signing Michael Jordan. Jason Bateman is the best part and Matt Damon killed it also. I don’t care for Ben Affleck but I did think this was directed really well
98. A Most Violent Year:
Oscar Isaac is running a fuel company and his trucks keep getting robbed so he is trying to figure out who is doing it. A lot of corruption here. Starts real slow with more action towards the back half and an awesome ending. Just great acting from Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain
99. Old:
A crazy idea for a movie that I thought was executed pretty well. Not the best movie you’ll ever watch but it's worth a shot. A family is on vacation and they get offered to go to a private beach for a day. When they get to the beach they start to realize that they are all rapidly aging. Thomasin Mackenzie is the star of the show here I thought
100. Defiance:
3 Jewish brothers are leading this little forest community thing that they have built in a fight against the Nazis. Liev Schreiber was pretty impressive in this and a great act from Daniel Craig also. Music was awesome, which is pretty common for a war flick. Definitely worth watching
101. Soul:
A top tier Pixar film here. This guy Joe is a band teacher but he really wants to be in a jazz band. He’s finally about to get his shot but then he ends up in another dimension and has to help this chick find her passion. All of the little guys in the other dimension are so frickin funny
102. The Dilemma:
This is your textbook Vince Vaughn role, loved it as always. I thought Winona Ryder sucked in this. 2 best friends are running a business together. One guy sees the other guys wife cheating on him and his dilemma is whether or not he should tell him
103. Locke:
This movie is just Tom Hardy sitting in a car for an hour and 28 minutes and showcasing how good of an actor he is
104. Lawless:
I thought this movie was incredible but some people have disagreed. This is a really strong cast led by Shia Lebouf, Tom Hardy and Jessica Chastain. 3 brothers are running a convenience store but it is a front for their bootlegging business. They have a deal with the law to keep it quiet but then Guy Pearce comes in a fucks it all up
105. Life Itself:
At this point this was my new favorite Oscar Isaac performance, he was awesome in this. This movie exhausted me in a really good way, makes you feel every emotion in the book. It is about a couple who experiences some tragedy and then a few other stories that connect. This is a terrible explanation but I loved it and I think most people would also
106. The Pianist:
I wanted more piano since it is called The Pianist. This is a war movie essentially. It follows a Polish guy and his family during the time when all of the Hitler stuff is happening. All of the Jewish and Polish people are running and or in hiding. This guy gets split up from his family so he is all alone while the Germans are bombing the city repeatedly
107. Love, Rosie:
Google says rom com but I think it's more of a rom than a com. I really enjoyed Lily Collins as the lead and then Sam Clafin was pretty good also. It's about 2 best friends and you can tell they really want to be with each other but the timing is always really bad. Lots of life events and other people getting in the way. If you’re a fan of rom coms or just romance movies this is your guy
108. Dirty Grandpa:
This is just a solid comedy film. I think Robert De Niro was at least 75% of the funny. Great performances from Aubrey Plaza and Zoey Deutch per usual. I think I watched 6 Zoey Deutch movies this year and only one was a miss. Zac Efron was fine but he plays the same character that he always does nowadays
109. Blackberry:
Loosely based on the rise and fall of Blackberry. I thought this movie was frickin awesome but then I read that there are many parts of the movie that are untrue. Still really good and I think it is worth your time
110. Decision to Leave:
Pretty interesting story about a detective who is trying to solve a case about a guy who fell off of a cliff. He then ends up developing feelings for the dead guy's wife. The music is frickin incredible. The last 20 minutes are beautiful and probably bump this from a 3.5 star to a 4 star movie. The movie is entirely in Korean so you will need subtitles if you don’t speak Korean
111. You Were Never Really Here:
Girl goes missing and Joaquin Phoenix is hired to find and rescue her. This must not be his first mission because he was shockingly good at finding her. His weapon of choice was a hammer which I thought was badass. Some of the best background music I’ve heard in a movie. Hour 28 runtime, quick and easy watch
112. The Good Nurse:
I think this has to be a top 10 release from 2022. Eddie Raymane is an Oscar winner so he can obviously act and he showcased it well here. He actually scared me during multiple parts of the film. Jessica Chastain can do no wrong in my eyes and she was amazing here. A nurse is going around hospitals across multiple states over the course of more than a decade and murdering people. Based on a true story
113. Last Night in Soho:
Thomasin Mackenzie is perfect in this and I wish she was in every movie ever made. This girl is studying fashion in London and then she ends up in the 1960s. It’s a mystery thriller and really psychological which is right in my sweet spot, the plot twists are so cool dude. This is the only Edgar Wright film I’ve seen besides Scott Pilgrim so he’s 2 for 2 so far
114. Fantastic Mr. Fox:
This is the first Claymation movie I’ve ever seen and I have absolutely no clue how they do it. I read that there are 56,000 shots that make up the movie. I thought George Clooney was perfect for the lead role. He is Mr. Fox and he is going to rob 3 farmers. There are a ton of witty little one liners. The cousin Kristofferson was my favorite part
115. Before Sunrise:
Hated it. Ethan Hawke is such a dork. Will not be watching the other 2 parts of the trilogy. The only 2 characters are him and Julie Delpy basically. She wasn’t that bad but they just talk each other's ears off for 100 straight minutes
116. The Swimmers:
These 2 Syrian sisters are amazing swimmers and they are trying to get to Greece I believe because they want to swim in the Olympics. They end up having to cross the Mediterranean on this raft with a bunch of people and I think they end up in Berlin but I could be wrong idk I watched it months ago. Regardless it's an amazing true story and I read that it is almost 100% accurate
117. Licorice Pizza:
Just an awful film that no one should ever watch
118. The Score:
I believe Edward Norton has beef with the academy which is why he doesn’t have 10 Oscars but this is an insane performance from him. Him and De Niro were a great duo. One of the best heist films I’ve seen and I think everyone should watch it asap. I can’t figure out why this doesn’t get more recognition
119. Mystic River:
A man's daughter goes missing, one of his childhood friends was the last one that saw her and another one of his friends is the main detective. Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon is a great trio. I think it's so funny that Sean Penn plays roles like this and roles like Spicoli which are total opposites
120. Inside Llewyn Davis:
This is Oscar Isaacs best performance ever. It’s about a struggling folk singer trying to get his big break. Please watch it
121. Battleship:
This is the old Jesse Plemons character that I miss. Was cool to see him and Taylor Kitsch in the same cast again (Friday Night Lights). This is a fun one where aliens come down to earth and the navy is fighting them in the ocean
122. Super Troopers:
A classic dumb comedy. Farva steals the show for me
123. The Drop:
This is a good gangster crime movie. Everything Tom Hardy does is correct in my eyes. He is a bartender in this and the mob ends up using the bar as a bank sort of.
124. Booksmart:
A top tier coming of age flick here
125. Kung Fu Panda:
Everyone has probably seen this, idk why I hadn’t. The yesterday is history scene is legendary. A really fun animated one obviously. Idk what else to say
126. Ava:
Ava is a freakin badass, another one that no one talks about ever but I thought was awesome. Jessica Chastain is an assassin and everyone is trying to kill her
127. King Richard:
This is the story of Venus and Serena Williams and also how nuts their dad was when they were growing up. Pretty cool to see the story and according to Google it is very accurate. I need John Bernthal to get bigger roles eventually
128. John Wick Chapter 4:
He’s everywhere in this one, New York, Japan, Paris, etc. Pretty much everyone is after him now and he is trying to defeat the High Table. If this is the last one then this was a great way to end it. I also think they have an incredible opportunity to make a movie on this new Tracker guy as he was so cool, my mom agrees
129. Call Me by Your Name:
Another good gay romance. I don’t know if I’m as high on it as everyone else seems to be but I thought it was good. Timothee Chalamet carries the show here and he is the only reason I watched it. Ending scene was amazing. Not a huge fan of Arnie Hammer
130. A Rainy Day in New York:
Same tune as the last one, Timothee Chalamet carries the show. This kid Gatsby goes to New York with his girlfriend and ends up running into this other girl that he used to know, you can imagine what happens next
131. Incendies:
This is the best foreign language film and one of the best plot twists I’ve ever seen. If you can handle watching a movie that is not in English please frickin watch this
132. Babylon:
Kind of a cool story about 1920s Hollywood. It is very long but not painfully long and I thought it kept me engaged for the most part. Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie were good, nothing crazy though. If you want to watch a Damien Chazelle movie watch La La Land or Whiplash 100 times before you consider watching this
133. Only God Forgives:
I think Nicolas Winding Refn has a kink for making movies where he can cast Ryan Gosling as the lead character and also have the character have as few lines as possible (he also made Drive). This is one of the lower end Gosling films I’ve seen. Thought Gosling did fine but kind of a low budgety and rushed feel. Gosling is a drug smuggler in Thailand trying to avenge his brothers death because his mom wants him to
134. How to Train Your Dragon 2:
I thought this was such a sick way to pick up after the first one. Hiccup is kind of running the show now from what I remember, their view on the dragons has completely 180’d. Some cool new characters including Hiccups mom. Pretty cool when they are exploring parts of their world that they’ve never been to. Excited for the 3rd
135. Gone Baby Gone:
Mystery thrillers are my favorite genre. Pair that with a Casey Affleck lead and that’s a perfect movie. He is the superior Affleck although Ben did direct this. Boston based movie as is the case for the Afflecks a lot. Cool story about a detective leading the charge to find a missing girl
136. X:
This is right at my threshold for scary movies. I don’t think I can handle much scarier than this. Jenna Ortega was all the rage there for a second last year and I thought she was good in this, thought Mia Goth was great. Before watching I thought Jenna Ortega was the killer but she is not. Don’t love Kid Cudi as an actor. The first kill scene was bonkers bro, all of them were pretty cool actually. A group of actors go to this old couple’s property to film a porno and then things go sideways. Old lady creeped me the fuck out
137. Beerfest:
Same writers and same vibe as Super Troopers. If I had to kill one and marry one I’d probably kill Beerfest although I do think this is the better story. Large Farva changed my life so can’t kill Super Troopers
138. Minari:
A Korean family moves to Arkansas because the dad wants to give them the American dream. He starts trying to grow his own crops on their land. Everywhere I looked I kept seeing how great this movie was. I don’t think it lived up to the hype for me but it was definitely worth my time. The grandma ended up being the best part I thought. All of these critics are raving about how it is so intimate and a great story of resiliency, I guess they’re right. Probably 3.5 out of 5 which is very respectable
139. The Kingdom:
This is a great hidden Bateman performance. Or hidden to me at least. Jamie Foxx has to put a team together to take down a terrorist group in Saudi Arabia. I think it’s loosely true idk. Jamie Foxx doesn’t really wow me in this, kind of the same character that he plays in Law Abiding Citizen
140. The Last Thing He Wanted:
This one doesn’t really do anything for me. Story is kind of weak and the acting isn’t good enough to carry it. I’ve been on record multiple times about not being a huge fan of Ben Affleck. Hated his character in this. Anne Hathaway was the one bright spot. I think calling this background noise is too far but it's not great
141. Vivarium:
This is a really strange movie man. A couple is trying to find a house to buy and they get taken to this development where all of the houses are identical. They end up being trapped in the development in a way.The kid scared the living shit out of me. I do like the Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots combo though. It’s worth a shot if you’re into really weird films
142. The Grand Budapest Hotel:
For the life of me I can’t figure out if I love Wes Anderson films or hate them. This is way better than The French Dispatch. It's about a hotel concierge and the lobby boy and a painting and a murder. That is a terrible description but I think this is worth a watch.
143. The Mule:
A really old dude ends up becoming a drug runner for the cartel and he is really good at it. This is a really good movie and it is on Netflix so there’s no excuse not to watch it. I think this is the only major role of Clint Eastwood’s that I’ve ever seen, I enjoyed it
144: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off:
This is another classic that I’d never seen. Ferris is kind of a little con artist and he’s skipping school obviously. He gets his buddy Cameron caught up in all of his affairs for the day. Also Cameron repping the Wings Gordie Howe sweater is electric. It’s a fun watch and I can see why it’s a classic
145. Our Friend:
This is an awesome frickin movie. Underrated too, I'd never even heard of it until September when I watched it. If you have a list this should go all the way to the top. Another Casey Affleck led banger and I won’t say the brother comment anymore. Dakota Johnson and Jason Segal killed it too, three unreal performances I thought. Me explaining the plot will kinda kill the vibe so just go watch it now please
146. The Equalizer:
I really enjoyed Denzel as a killer. He’s just about to retire but then he notices this chick that goes to the same diner as him is getting abused. Before you know it he’s fighting the Russian Mob. This is an awful review but you should watch this. Can’t wait to watch the 2nd and 3rd
147. 10 Years:
Pretty cheesy one about a 10 year highschool reunion. Another respectable performance from Oscar Isaac though. This is not worth watching
148. Tar:
Lydia Tar is a composer for some really sick symphony. This is just 2 hours and 40 minutes of showcasing how Cate Blanchette is an amazing actor. I thought for sure that this was based on a true story but turns out it is made up. I don’t think many people that I send this to would be interested in this so won’t recommend
149. The Greatest Showman:
This is a great movie. PT Barnum is crazy man, he creates his own circus show of sorts. I loved Zendaya in this and Hugh Jackman was perfect for the main role. Sometimes I feel that Zac Efron is just kinda there but I thought he was great in this also. Keep in mind it is a musical and I like musicals so that’s why I’m singing high praises
150. The Covenant:
This is an awesome 2023 release. I’m not as high on Jake Gyllenhaal as I was at the beginning of the year but I do still like him a lot, I thought he did a nice job here. Ahmed the interpreter steals the show I thought. Pretty good war flick but I don’t think it is a true story
151. Thoroughbreds:
This one is kinda dark and twisted and a little funny. The Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy combo is incredible. These 2 chicks used to be friends and now one is tutoring the other. They end up coming up with a plan to kill the tutor’s stepdad. Another shitty explanation but you should watch it asap
152. The Stranger:
A crime thriller but not a good one. Pretty forgettable and not worth your time. Moving on
153: Nocturne:
This is Sydney Sweeney pretty much playing her same character from Euphoria. Her and her sister are both piano students and the sister is always in the limelight. This is her attempt to outdo her. I liked it, it's quick and keeps you interested I thought. Some psychological aspects as well which I enjoyed. Acting is good all around
154. Sanctuary:
I’ve been high on Christopher Abbot earlier in these reviews and I also like Margaret Qualley a lot. They are the only 2 people in this movie for the vast majority. Acting was fine but I don’t get the story at all and I can’t believe this movie got made
155. V for Vendetta:
V is a terrorist who I believe is fighting the British government. He ends up saving this girl (Natalie Portman) from the secret police and then she starts working with him kind of. Natalie Portman is one of the best to ever do it. Idk its cool but didn’t blow me away
156. Bohemian Rhapsody:
This one is awesome. It is about the rise of Freddie Mercury and Queen as most people probably already know. I thought that Rami Malek dominated this role. The scene when they make Another One Bites the Dust was the best part I thought
157. The Reptile:
This is a good 2023 release. The first 40 or so minutes I thought this was going to be terrible but then it takes some pretty cool turns in the back half. I thought Benicio Del Toro was great as the lead, I don’t care for Justin Timberlake as an actor much (he sucks in The Social Network). Like I said this is a good one with a cool plot and everyone will forget about it in a year or less
158. Asteroid City:
Wes Anderson's newest release obviously and I think one of his best. I don’t think it's too crazy to call this a top 10 movie from 2023. Same vibe as always from a Wes Anderson flick, stacked cast and really unique style of storytelling. A ton of awesome performances but I’m not going to name them all. The guy's wife just died and he takes his kid to a star watching competition type thing. Sounds dumb I guess but it’s funny and weird in a good way
159. Fair Play:
This couple gets engaged and they also work together. Right after the engagement the girl gets promoted to be the guy's boss basically. This ends up sending their relationship spiraling as you can imagine. The main girl is so hot which is not important. A lot of the people reading this have already seen it and some have been critical but I thought it was decent
160. Thank You for Your Service:
A soldier comes back from war and he is trying to adjust to normal life again. Idk great performance from Miles Teller as always but I think you’ll be fine if you never see this
161. Kodachrome:
This is a good one to just turn on and you don’t have to intently watch the entire time. It’s a really dumb idea for a story but I think they executed it well. I thought Sudekis and Elizabeth Olsen were an awesome combo in this. Ed harris bores me
162. No Hard Feelings:
A couple puts out an ad for a car in exchange for agreeing to date their really awkward 19 year old son. Jennifer Lawrence really needed a car at the time so she does it. I thought she was hilarious. Kind of reminded me of her Silver Linings Playbook role. The main kid was great also. This is one of the best comedies I can remember from the 2020s
163. Bottoms:
I watched this strictly for Ayo Edebiri and she carried this shit so hard. These 2 dorky highschool chicks start a fight club. Story is mad dumb but I enjoyed it
164. Buffaloed:
This is the worst Zoey Deutch movie I’ve seen by far
165. Elemental:
Besides Luca I think this is the best Pixar film of the 2020s. It's a huge city where all of the people are either fire, water, land or air. A fire girl and a water guy start to develop feelings but the girl really doesn’t think it can work between them. This is a rom com essentially. I thought it was a great story and I frickin love Wade
166. Fear of Rain:
A really good schizophrenia story with a nice plot twist towards the end. It kept me guessing the entire time. Definitely worth watching and only 90 minute runtime
167. Isle of Dogs:
Another Wes Anderson claymation movie. I can’t decide if this one or Mr. Fox is better. I loved them both though. I do think this one is funnier. A pack of stray dogs live on this island called trash land and they are looking for this pilot kid’s dog Spots
168. Onward:
This is one of the worst Pixar movies I’ve seen
169. City of God:
This is a story about the poorest neighborhoods in Rio in the 1970s and it follows all of these drug dealer gangs. And it is frickin nuts. It follows a couple main dudes who can’t be more than 18-20. There’s kids walking around with guns and robbing gas trucks etc. Great movie. I believe they are speaking Portuguese but I know for sure it is not English so you will need subtitles. All of the kids have such sick nicknames also
170. Detachment:
Watched this because I wanted to see another Adrien Brody performance. He was just as good in this as he was in the Pianist. He’s a substitute teacher who bounces around from school to school. He ends up getting an extended gig at a really fucked up school and he’s also got some weird shit going on after school. A lot of turns that I wasn’t expecting. Kind of the same vibes as Half Nelson, I think it's worth a try
171. A Beautiful Mind:
Another great schizophrenia story with a cool twist towards the end. Kind of the same idea as Fear of Rain except older and more mainstream and bigger budget. Great lead from Russel Crowe and I think Jennifer Connelly supported well
172. World’s Fastest Indian:
I would probably get cooked for this but I like this Anthony Hopkins performance better than his Silence of the Lambs performance. This is a sick story about an old dude trying to get his motorcycle from New Zealand to Utah to break the record for fastest speed. Based on a true story also
173. Bird Box:
I’m a little late to the party here as I believe I remember everyone talking about this when it came out in 2018. There’s this thing outside that I don’t know how to explain but it's killing everyone who sees it. So everyone who goes outside has to be blindfolded or keep their eyes closed. This woman and her kids are going through this forest and then basically white water rafting blindfolded to get to a place that they think is a safehouse. This is a good story that Sandra Bullock makes great in my opinion
174. Lost Highway:
Bill Pullman creeps me out and Patricia Arquette is just kind of there. I watched it because I thought I saw it on a greatest plot twist list but I was mistaken. There was no plot really let alone any twists. This guy thinks his wife is having an affair and then he’s accused of murder is what Google thinks. Wasted over 2 hours on this shit
175. The Killer:
Another 2023 release and this one is so sick. I’ve never seen Michael Fassbender in anything but this was a great introduction. The opening scene was so cool and I loved his narration. It reminded me of the guy from You narrating. I don’t think this is a top tier Fincher film but that is a hard list to crack. I do think this is an awesome assassin movie and it’s worth your time
176. White Boy Rick:
Matthew McConaughey gives another incredible performance with similar vibes to his role in Dallas Buyers Club. This is just a fun movie to watch with so much drama. The kid playing Rick was great also and had so many good supporting roles. Crazy story about Detroit in the 80s and it is true
177. To Catch a Killer:
Shailene Woodley plays a cop in Baltimore and she is recruited by the FBI to help catch this guy that is going around killing everyone. It's not the best crime thriller you’ll ever see but it's a fun time and worth watching in my opinion. Shailene Woodley was the best part I thought
178. Wall Street:
This is a great movie about the stock market. Gordon Gekko is kind of a piece of shit. It's about this young stockbroker dude who is obsessed with this really powerful investor Gordon Gekko. He’s always trying to get a meeting with Gekko and eventually ends up getting in his office and working for him sort of. Michael Douglass gets all of the awards for this movie but I thought Charlie Sheen was the best part
179. Blood Diamond:
There is a civil war in Sierra Leone and they are digging for diamonds. These 2 guys are trying to find this huge diamond and the one guy is also trying to find his son. Dicaprio always delivers and he was amazing in this as well. Some really good acting and a cool story that keeps you interested
180. Jennifer’s Body:
Another fun quick slasher film. It’s 15 years old now so anyone who’s into slashers has probably seen this. Thought Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried were really good together. This high school chick gets possessed by a demon and starts eating dudes pretty much
181. First Man:
This is probably my least favorite movie I’ve seen with Ryan Gosling in it. It's about Neil Armstrong going to the moon which I thought would be cool but it was so boring
182. Barbie:
America Ferrara was the best part of this movie by far I thought. I thought the overall message was cool. Gosling and Margot Robbie are 2 of the goats and anything Greta Gerwig directs is bound to be great. Some of the jokes didn’t hit for me
183. Dumb Money:
Paul Dano is Roaring Kitty who is the guy that was responsible for the Gamestop stock thing in 2020. They show a couple other random people who are also buying Gamestop stock because of the Roaring Kitty dude and then also the hedge funds losing money. Paul Dano is the best
184. Rio:
Everyone’s probably seen this. It's 13 years old now. This is a good animated film idk if i’d say great. Jesse Eisenberg is perfect as Blu. There are some parts that were really funny including the Lionel Ritchie song scene. Nico and Pedro cracked me up. I think it's a good movie
185. Rio 2:
Not necessary
186. May December:
Really strange story about this teacher who has a thing with her 7th grade student and then she ends up marrying him. Natalie Portman is an actor who is coming to observe their life because she is going to play the teacher in the movie that they are making about their story. Good acting I guess, story isn’t very compelling
187. 2001: A Space Odyssey:
This movie is not good, I can’t understand what all of the hype is about after all of these years
188. Honor Society:
Watched this strictly for Gaten Matarazzo who is a top 2 character in Stranger Things. He dominated in this. There are a few highschool students who are in the running to get a recommendation from a teacher who has a connect at Harvard. He can only recommend one. This chick Honor is trying to sabotage the other 2 so she can get the recommendation. There is a sick little twist at the end which made the movie
189. The One I Love:
You get a lot with this movie including some romance, drama, dry comedy, scifi and thriller aspects. This couple is struggling so they go to a couples retreat type house that was recommended by their therapist. I don’t want to say anything else as it will give away the plot but it is very odd and I enjoyed it. 2 sick lead performances here also from actors that I recognize but do not care to look up their names
190. Leave the World Behind:
The power grid goes out and these 2 families are stuck at a house out in the woods. A lot of increasingly more weird things keep happening and they are trying to figure out what to do. It's on the longer side at 2 hours and 20 minutes but I think that it’s worth watching. I have been critical of Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke in the past but I liked them both in this. Some really cool scenes and an interesting plot
191. Salt:
Angelina Jolie is a CIA agent and she is accused of being a Russian spy. Her and Liev Schreiber were awesome in this. This is a really good action flick that you could keep going back to to rewatch every now and then
192. Love Actually:
I like movies with a lot of different stories typically but there’s just too much going on here. It’s not a bad film but not a top tier rom com or Christmas movie by any means
193. Gangs of New York:
This is one of the best Dicaprio movies I’ve seen. Dicaprio goes to prison and then returns to New York to avenge his dads death. This is only the 2nd Daniel Day-Lewis performance I’ve seen and it was just as incredible as the first. On the longer side but I think this is a must watch
194. Cape Fear:
Not a bad movie but De Niro has a lot of better performances in the 90s alone
195. Wonka:
Anything with Chalamet I’m gonna watch. I loved this. This is the story of how Willy Wonka became what he is. Watched this with my pal Ken in theaters, idk if Ken enjoyed it as much as I did. This is another musical and again I am a fan of musicals. If you don’t like musicals this may not be for you
196. Maestro:
I believe this is Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut but I did not fact check that. This is a movie about Leonard Berstein’s career as a conductor and also his really weird relationship with his wife. Bradley Cooper played Leonard Bernstein and he was doing this really weird voice that sounded like he had his nose plugged. Probably to sound like the actual Leonard. He also had to chain smoke the whole time and had a bunch of shit on his face. His performance was incredible although the story was kind of boring for the most part. Carey Mulligan was awesome as well
197. Saltburn:
I think everyone is criminally overreacting to this movie on both sides. For anyone to say this is the best or worst or weirdest movie they’ve seen is crazy town. This is a typical plot for a thriller I thought. The tub scene was weird but I think him fucking the grave was weirder. Idk I didn't get much out of this. I get that Jacob Elordi is a heartthrob but I didn’t feel like it was an insane performance from him. Barry was great as always and Rosamund Pike really delivered I thought. It’s a strange film but I think the reactions are exaggerated. Watched this with my mom
198. Bank of Dave:
I was desperate for anything at this point because I was so close to 200. Dave is trying to start his own bank as you might guess from the title. Nothing special here
199. Oppenheimer:
I think this is the most iconic film of the 2020s now. Aftersun is still my favorite of the 2020s but this is right up there. The main song of the score is electric and the first scene that they played it in was so sick. When they were getting ready to test the bomb for the first time was the best part I thought. Cillian Murphy is a legend and this is probably his best performance yet. Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. were amazing as well. When they started to turn on RDJ it was so cool. It’ll be interesting to see where this stacks up in the Nolan film rankings
200. Godzilla Minus One:
You have wartorn Japan already struggling and then they have to deal with a giant fucking lizard thing too. This is a great movie. I think it’s still a great story even without Godzilla. I haven’t seen many of the Godzilla films but this is the best one I've seen so far. Thanks to Griffin for being a Godzilla stan and taking me to the theater with him
