I watched 21 movies in January and these are my quick thoughts on all of them. Movies make me so happy. If you read any of this thank you and I love you
Dune 2
Had to start the year off right. I think this is my 9th time watching this and every time it gets better. I have already written about this multiple times on here so I won't beat a dead horse but everyone should be watching this over and over until your eyes bleed
Scott Pilgrim vs The World
I think this is a perfect movie. One of my top 10 of all time. It's so stupid and so funny and the editing dude its so perfect. I still think the shirt that just says sharpie is one of the best parts. The cast is unbelievably stacked and they were all incredible. Scott Pilgrim has a crush on this new chick Ramona Flowers and he has to fight her 7 evil exes. I think this is one of the most fun movies ever made. If you do watch it though you have to keep in mind it is incredibly stupid
Argo
A cool thriller led and directed by Ben Affleck. It is based on a true story but I am not certain how accurate it is. Basically the US embassy gets taken over in Iran and there are a bunch of Americans being held hostage. There are 6 that escape and are hiding at what I believe is the Canadian ambassador's house. Ben Affleck plays this dude who is an expert at recovering people from these situations and he is called on to get them back to the US. Don't really want to spoil any more of the plot but the plan that he comes up with is pretty wild and a most people hearing the plan aren't really on board with it at first. I think its a great movie worth watching, Oscar winner with a cool story and strong cast
A Complete Unknown
Anything starring Timothee Chalamet is an automatic watch for me and he dominates again in this. I don't think I can even name one Bob Dylan song off the top of my head but I really liked this. Again I don't really have any idea how historically accurate any of this was but it was cool to see the music related parts and also the little love triangle thing he had going on. Some really good performances from Edward Norton and Elle Fanning I thought also
I Used to be Funny
A very emotional and kinda sad but also funny movie. Rachel Sennott is only like 29 but she has already been in 5 or 6 bangers, some of which are relatively unknown at this point including this one. I think she is going to be a really big presence in the movie world in years to come. Anyways she is a stand up comedian in this and a girl that she used to nanny for goes missing. We kind of bounce back and forth between past and present where we see her dealing with some of her trauma and also the events that lead to the trauma (for the life of me I cannot figure out if its lead or led). This is a good little hidden gem kinda and its on Netflix
Mulholland Drive
I keep trying David Lynch movies and I just don't see the appeal. I know I'm a moron but Lost Highway is literally a movie about nothing and this one is not much better. I will keep trying them periodically until I find one that I like or just until I've seen them all I guess
The Batman
Paul Dano riddler is the most perfect casting of all time. Is this the best superhero movie ever besides The Dark Knight? Maybe. Robert Pattinson is also pretty damn good as Batman. I think I will need to see another in order to decide if I think him or Christian Bale is better. So many awesome performances in this. Can't wait for the second and hoping I'm not 30 by the time it is finally done
Anora
Such a chaotic and fun and unpredictable flick here. Idk who the fuck Yuriy Borisov is but he absolutely dominates in this. One of the best movies of 2024 and Oscar Nominated. I also don't know much of anything about Mikey Madison but she was amazing in this as well. She is a stripper/escort and this dude whose dad is like a Russian billionaire pays her to hang out with him. They end up getting legally married within like a week or 2 and once his family finds out they start trying to get the marriage annulled which comes with some bumps along the way
Conclave
Another one of the best of 2024 and also Oscar nominated. It's almost as if they made this movie entirely to show us again how great of an actor Ralph Fiennes is. This is going to be a horrible explanation but there are all of these religious leader dudes who are gathered in Italy to vote on who the new pope should be. The main dude Cardinal Lawrence just keeps digging up new dirt along the way which complicates the process. Idk I seriously have no clue what I'm talking about. It honestly sounds like it would be kind of a dumb movie but it is actually very good
Game Night
This is the best thing that Jesse Plemons has ever done. He is electric as Gary and I wish he was in every scene. The last few minutes when they are showing how he had it planned all along was so funny. The tostitos scoops scene is an all timer. As always there is some typical Bateman dry humor which I love. I think that this is a really solid comedy that maybe doesn't get enough credit
Nosferatu
I have mentioned that I am sort of a bitch when it comes to scary movies and this is right at my threshold of scariness. I thought the body acting stuff that Lily Rose Depp was doing was really frickin impressive. I also thought that Nicholas Hoult was so awesome in this and I will automatically be watching anything he is in from now on. When he goes to the castle and we see Orlok for the first time was incredible and also really creepy. The whole movie is pretty creepy and uncomfortable but in a good way if that makes sense. Also Willem Dafoe is in this because he was in every single movie in 2024. Cool vampire horror flick
A Real Pain
I think the acting and dialogue is incredible throughout the entire movie but the plot just didn't interest me. 2 cousins played by Kieran Culkin and Jesse Eisenberg go to Poland to check out where their grandma is from. Really good chemistry between Culkin and Eisenberg the whole time I thought
The Menu
Such a sick idea for a movie dude. Nicholas Hoult and Anya Taylor Joy go to this really exclusive restaurant on an island and its like an all night experience type thing. Ralph Fiennes is the main chef and he is absolutely insane. There are some jaw dropping moments and it keeps you entertained the entire time. Great acting and a really cool story that is definitely worth watching
Inception
This is just my dumb little opinion but I think this is the best sci fi movie ever made. We're planting an idea in this dude's subconscious and we're going down multiple levels of dreams within dreams and its incredible. This is a top 3 movie of all time for me, another one where you notice a few new things on each rewatch. Dicaprio with a flawless lead as always and such great performances from Broseph Gordon Levitt, Hardy, Ken Watanabe, etc
Snowpiercer
Its probably Bong Joon Hos 4th best but its still a great movie. A lot of impressive acting and a fun story line. There was a 2nd ice age and all of the survivors are living on a train. Chris Evans dominates
Juror #2
Nicholas Hoult is the man and he should be in every movie ever. I cant believe Clint Eastwood is still alive. Really difficult for me to explain the plot without giving anything away but basically Nicholas Hoult is on the jury for a case that he knows some really important details about. Idk dude. Really good 2024 release that you should watch asap
Flight Risk
This isnt the worst movie ive ever seen in my entire life but it is definitely one of them
Mad Max Fury Road
The wasteland vibe they have going on here is actually really cool. I dont even know how to begin describing it. Tom Hardy is getting chased in a truck for the majority of the movie. Not the best movie youll ever see but i think its worth a shot. Oh and also Nicholas Hoult with another perfect performance
Little Miss Sunshine
This will be one of the best hour and 40 minutes of your entire life. A perfect movie. One of the best of the 2000s and really good comedy that we dont get a ton of nowadays. Alan Arkin was incredible and won an Oscar for it. Then you have Steve Carrell, Paul Dano and Toni Collette giving you just all time performances as well. Dad, mom, grandpa, uncle and 2 kids road tripping to California for a the little miss sunshine contest. This should be really high on the list assuming you have a list and havent seen this
The Shadow Strays
So many decapitations. This chick is basically the Indonesian John Wick. I know its just a movie but the amount of bullets that miss her is absolutely insane. The broken baseball bat through the mouth was incredible. Really fun movie. “From your neck, death whistles. The last thing you’ll see is your blood painting the floor red” crazy line
65
Its 65 million years ago hence the title and Adam Driver is stuck on Earth. Idk its fun and I think worth watching if youre searching
